This weekend was Aunt Sue Day - a personal holiday to celebrate my late (and often late) aunt. She was a strong, independent, and caring woman who did what she wanted to do and loved helping people. She inspires me to try new things and see things from others' points of view. Aunt Sue usually had a smile on her face and didn't take herself too seriously. It's a quality that made people around her feel comfortable. She devoted her life to serving others in her job as a social worker and in her free time.
It makes me sad that Aunt Sue will never meet my future child and that my child will won't have Aunt Sue in their life. But, I hope that she is present through family stories and in the lessons I learned from her. My child will benefit from the wonderful qualities that Aunt Sue passed on to me and others around her.
